The four people killed in a three-car collision in Ocho Rios, St Ann, early Saturday were all teenagers, the police have revealed.

The police claimed too, that the licence plates on the two Mercedes Benz motor cars involved in the crash were hastily removed by the occupants before they "fled" the scene along with the drivers.

Those killed have been identified as Shantana Leonard, 17, a student of Brown’s Town High School, also in St Ann; Kenneil Lyle, 16, a student of Iona High School, in St Mary; Marcodine Maxwell, 16, student of Oracabessa High School, in St Mary, and Rajani Abdul, who also attended Oracabessa High.

Lyle, Maxwell and Abdul were passengers in the third car involved in the crash, which was being driven by Leonard, according to the police.

The St Ann police report that the two Mercedes Benz motor cars were traveling along DaCosta Drive at a very “high speed” when one of the luxury vehicles attempted to overtake the other.

It reportedly ventured into the path of the Toyota motor car with the teenagers, which was travelling in the opposite direction, and collided into the left front section then forcing it into the right lane.

“The other Mercedes Benz collided into its [the Toyota] left side, causing significant damage to all vehicles. Passengers aboard all vehicles sustained serious injuries,” a police official said.

The teens died at hospital.

“The other passengers in the two Mercedes Benz who were not critically injured, to include both drivers, reportedly hastily removed the [registration] plates that were affixed to both vehicles, among other items, and fled the scene,” the police official charged.

An investigation has since been launched to ascertain the identities of the drivers of the two luxury cars and the police are appealing to members of the public who have information that can assist them to come forward.
