The attorney for Pops YG says the entertainer and popular social media blogger is to face an identification parade on Monday despite his objections about the fairness of the actions of the police.

Donnovan Collins, the attorney for Pops YG, said the police also indicated that they will retain a legal aid attorney to represent the entertainer during the identification parade.

A person accused of a crime has the right to the legal representation of their choice, he noted.

Pops YG, real name Ansel Fairclough, has been in custody since last Monday when he was arrested by detectives from the police sex crimes unit who are investigating allegations that he engaged in sexual activity with a minor, The Gleaner previously reported, citing law enforcement sources.

At the time of the arrest he was on pre-charge bail following his arrest in September on reasonable suspicion of breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act, commonly called the lottery scam law.

Collins said he has indicated to police investigators that his client is not willing to participate in a formal identification parade, citing concerns about fairness.

“Mr Fairclough has been exposed and is also a very popular person whose face is all over social media globally,” the attorney said on Saturday.

Collins said he has also suggested to investigators that there are other types of parades that they can take advantage of “which do not require our consent”.

Despite this, however, the attorney said he has been informed by the police that Pops YG is to face an identification parade at 2pm on Monday accompanied by a legal aid attorney they intend to retain.
