A St Catherine man who attacked and chopped his brother repeatedly arising from a land dispute has been sentenced to almost 15 months in prison.

Robert McKellop, 35, a labourer of Faiths District, in Browns Hall, St Catherine was sentenced to 14 months and 21 days by Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle in the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday.

He was credited with the one year and nine days he spent in custody awaiting trial.

McKellop pleaded guilty earlier this year to wounding with intent.

The judge noted that McKellop has a “violent” history, pointing to his criminal record, which was among the documents included in the case.

"Mr McKellop has seven previous convictions. Of note, all are for violent offences," Nelson-Gayle said.

McKellop turned himself in at the Browns Hall police station two days after the incident in October last year.

He was represented by attorney Fabian Campbell.
