Two men charged in connection with the recent seizure of 200 rounds of ammunition in St James have each been granted $400,000 bail.

Jermaine Graham, 32, a deliveryman of Roehampton district, Anchovy; and 23-year-old teller Shamoy Staple of Paradise, Norwood, were each granted bail with one to three sureties when they appeared in the St James Parish Court on Monday.

Following a bail application by their attorney Michael Hemmings, bail was offered on condition that they report to the police on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, observe a daily curfew and surrender their travel documents.

A stop order was also imposed on both men at all ports of entry and exit.

Graham and Staple have been charged with unauthorised possession of ammunition, stockpiling of prohibited weapons, possession of a prohibited weapon, dealing in prohibited weapons, and trafficking in prohibited weapons.

The matter is to be transferred to the Western Regional Gun Court and is scheduled for mention on November 12.

The two were charged following a police operation along Fairfield Road, St James, on August 6.

Police report that about 2:50 pm, members of the National Strategic Anti-Gang Division, acting on investigative leads, intercepted a white Toyota Voxy along the roadway with Graham and Staple aboard.

A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a box containing a total of 200 rounds of 9mm ammunition on the floor on the driver's side.

The police claim that the vehicle had been intercepted after they received information that persons aboard were in possession of ammunition intended for sale.

Graham and Staple were taken into custody and later charged following a question-and-answer session conducted in the presence of their attorneys.
