The Opposition People's National Party (PNP) has remembered former Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister Dean Peart as a dedicated public servant whose decades of service have left a lasting impact on the Manchester North Western constituency and Jamaica.

Peart has passed away.

In a statement on Sunday, the party said Peart was a proud son of Manchester who carried forward a strong political legacy established by his father, former parliamentarian Ernest Peart.

He also served alongside his brother, former Speaker of the House Michael Peart, making the Pearts one of Jamaica's most prominent political families.

Peart represented the constituency for 22 years after winning the constituency five consecutive times.

During his tenure, the PNP said he distinguished himself through his commitment to community development, overseeing the construction of 13 community centres and numerous basic schools while championing educational opportunities for young people.

The party also highlighted his service in government, where he held ministerial responsibility for several portfolios, including Local Government, Environment and Lands, and Works.

He also served as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Sports.

Describing him as a man of integrity, hard work and candour, the PNP said Peart earned the admiration of the people he served and the respect of colleagues across the political divide.

The party extended its deepest condolences to his wife, Vynette, his children, the wider Peart family and the people of North West Manchester.

Meanwhile, PNP president Dr Peter Phillips has also hailed Peart.

He called the former MP someone who dedicated many years of his life to public service and the people of Jamaica.

“I remember with great fondness the years we spent working together at the Ministry of Transport and Works. His commitment, wisdom, and camaraderie will always be remembered,” said Phillips in a post on social media.

“My sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who mourn his passing. May they find comfort in the many cherished memories he leaves behind, and may his soul rest in eternal peace.”
