Outclassed by United States-bred WALL STREET TRADER in the Ash Wednesday Trophy at six and a half furlongs, DON KWESI returns for Saturday’s International Women’s Day feature but will have to defy a boggling topweight allotment against course-specialist NEO STAR at nine furlongs and 25 yards. Running as a lightweight in the Ash Wednesday Trophy, allotted 114lb, not counting Demar Williams’ five-pound claim, DON KWESI placed third behind topweight WALL STREET TRADER, a grade-two winner, and OIL MACHINE, an overnight-allowance winner.

Expungement law offering new start after rehabilitation now in effect
More Jamaicans with a criminal record will now have the opportunity for a fresh start with the enactment of the Criminal Records (Rehabilitation of Offenders) Amendment Act, 2026. The act, which introduces sweeping reforms aimed at giving rehabilitated Jamaicans a meaningful second chance, including provisions for automatic expungement in certain cases, is now in effect. Justice Minister Delroy Chuck, addressing a post-Cabinet press briefing held yesterday at Jamaica House in St Andrew, said the law is a critical step in giving ex-convicts a new beginning.

Sporting director of Mount Pleasant Football Academy, Paul Christie, says the club will be without at least 10 first-team players when they face Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy in the Concacaf Champions Cup’s round of 16. The two-leg tie is scheduled for March 11 and 19, with the Theodore Whitmore-coached outfit set to travel to Los Angeles for the first leg before returning to Kingston for the second at the National Stadium. Christie said that visa issues will significantly impact the squad selection, particularly affecting several key players.

Creatives tune in for Music Publishing Masterclass
Jack Russell Music, a notable success in publishing, was founded in 2007 by Clare Ram with a handful of songwriters on her roster. Nearly two decades later, there are more than 1,300 signed writers and catalogues. On Tuesday, Ram hosted a free Music Publishing Masterclass workshop at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston, and had an overflowing house of interested music practitioners inside the William Gordon Room. The event also featured testimonials from practitioners such as Mikey General, Blaqk Sheep, and Italee, who all spoke glowingly of the entity.

Regency Petroleum buys Yaadman LPG business, doubling market share
Petroleum company Regency Petroleum has agreed to acquire the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) operations of Yaadman Petroleum, a deal that will double Regency’s presence in Jamaica’s cooking gas market. The acquisition will “no less than double the market share” of Regency’s existing operation, according to Andrew Williams, CEO of Regency Petroleum, in a Financial Gleaner interview.
