Defending Jamaica Premier League (JPL) champions Portmore United picked up their second win of the season after they blanked Treasure Beach 2-0 yesterday at Ferdi Neita Park.

Portmore scored twice in the second half to secure all three points, with Demario Dailey opening the scoring in the 48th minute before Stevaughn Spence confirmed the win with a strike in the 70th.

The win also meant that Portmore returned to winning ways as the reigning champions were on a run of four consecutive draws.

For Treasure Beach, they were fresh off a thrilling win against Tru Juice FC over the weekend, and faltered to their third defeat in four games,

Treasure Beach had an early chance in the contest when Navardo Blair was played through on goal, but his tame shot was easily collected by goalkeeper Robert Henry.

Portmore found their footing and eventually responded with a flurry of chances that failed to find the back of the net.

Jevaughn Grant had a look at goal in the 10th minute, but his snapshot off a turn inside the box went wide of the target.

Portmore continued to press, and Grant came close to setting up the opening goal when he played in Tarick Ximines through on goal in the 16th minute.

However, Ximines’ attempt to round the goalkeeper was cut out by Mowey Morgan, who collected the ball.

Portmore had another chance four minutes later when Clayton Peck floated a dangerous ball to the back post, but it was just too high for Ximines, who had the goal at his mercy.

The hosts continued to create opportunities in the first half but could not find the opener as both teams went into the break scoreless.

Portmore were on target early in the second half as substitute Dailey found the back of the net just three minutes after the restart.

They doubled their lead when former Frome Technical standout Spence scored just seconds after his introduction to the game.

Spence picked up the ball just outside the box before cutting inside his marker and firing into the roof of the net.

Portmore saw out the result as Treasure Beach rarely threatened their goal for the remainder of the game.

With the win, Portmore move to 10 points just outside a spot in the top six, while Treasure Beach sit on five points inside the relegation zone.
