Kingston College’s (KC’s) head coach Jermaine Miller says he is embracing the pressure that comes with leading one of Jamaica’s most successful schoolboy football programmes, as he looks to restore the institution to the top of local football.
Miller, who served as KC’s under-16 head coach last season, replaces veteran coach Vassell Reynolds, whose contract was not renewed at the end of the season.
Reynolds spent three years at the helm of the North Street-based institution, leading the school to the Manning Cup and Olivier Shield titles in 2024. However, KC’s form dipped during the 2025 campaign as they were eliminated in the second round of the Manning Cup, a result that appears to have influenced the school’s decision not to renew his contract.
Despite the high expectations surrounding the position, Miller said he is mentally and physically prepared for the challenge.
“The Kingston College job is a high-profile job and everyone knows that coming here as coach is always to produce results and to develop the players and to have them play good football,” said Miller.
“Yes, it is a difficult task but I am preparing myself and my staff to come out and produce the best that we can.”
The highly respected Miller brings a wealth of coaching experience to the role. He previously coached at St Catherine High School in 2015, served as assistant coach at St Jago High School in 2018, was head coach of Haile Selassie High School in 2019, and worked as assistant coach at Jamaica College from 2020 to 2022. He then joined Kingston College as assistant coach from 2022 to 2024 before taking over as head coach at Dinthill Technical in 2024.
Now back at KC, Miller noted that he has a well-balanced squad capable of competing this season.
“It is a balanced squad, we have some returning players and we have some young players that are coming up, so it is a balanced squad that we will be looking to get the best out of this season,” he said.
“It is a demanding job, there is a demanding management team but very supportive as well, and the fans are very demanding as well, and I am also demanding of myself and my staff and my players, so I know the expectations are high. We are looking forward to just going out there and making ourselves and our fans happy” Miller stated.
He also shared that KC have lost seven players from last season’s squad, but remains confident in the players still at his disposal.
“The confidence is high in the camp because all the players who come to Kingston College understand what it means to produce and to do well at all times,” Miller said.
“They are always up to it, so it is always positive and, so far in the training, they have been showing positive signs and they are doing well, and so we are just excited and looking forward to the season.”
