Westmoreland man charged after allegedly leaving voter ID card at house he robbed

The police in Westmoreland have charged a man who allegedly robbed a house and left his voter identification card behind.
He is 25-year-old Delano Smith, otherwise called ‘Rick’, a labourer of Shanty Town in Little London, who is charged with housebreaking and larceny.
He was charged on Monday after a question-and-answer session conducted in the presence of his attorney.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, August 11.
The police report that about 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, a woman who lives in his community locked her home before leaving.
She returned at about 6:00 p.m. and discovered that the house had been broken into, the police reported.
According to the police, a Samsung cellphone, JMD$60,000, US$300, and other personal items were stolen.
The police say that during a search of the house, an Electoral Identification Card bearing the suspect’s name was found.
The matter was reported to the police, and Smith was subsequently identified as a suspect in the incident.
Following further investigations, Smith was arrested during a targeted police operation on Sunday, July 19.
He was subsequently charged on Monday, August 3.
