Psychiatric evaluation ordered for man accused of killing 80-year-old mother

The man accused of murdering his 80-year-old St Catherine mother, whose decomposing body was found inside their home in Cheesefield district, is to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

The order was made against 53-year-old Paolo Grant, who was born and raised in Italy, when he appeared before the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday.

The court was informed that an interpreter has been identified to assist with the case.

The case has faced delays due to the absence of an interpreter and communication issues with the accused.

The defence had expressed concerns that proper instructions could not be obtained from Grant.

An Italian interpreter was present in court on Tuesday.

Grant, who is accused of murdering his mother, Jasmine Grant, otherwise called 'Sister Grant', a retiree, was f

further remanded and ordered to return to court on September 23.

Allegations are that about 11:00 a.m. on November 19, 2025, residents of Cheesefield district who went in search of the octogenarian discovered her decomposing body inside the house she occupied with her son.

The police were summoned, and the body was found with multiple wounds.

The son was arrested on suspicion of murder and subsequently charged.

Grant has made several court appearances in the matter.
