Woman shot and injured by police during dispute with taxi operator

A woman was shot and injured by an off-duty policeman following an altercation with a taxi driver, in the vicinity the main gate of The University of the West Indies (UWI), on Tuesday afternoon.

Reports are that about 4:30 p.m., the woman allegedly attacked a taxi driver with a knife during a dispute. 

An off-duty policeman who was passing by reportedly saw the incident and intervened.

The woman allegedly ignored the policeman’s commands and again moved to attack the driver. 

The policeman reportedly discharged his firearm, hitting the woman in the leg.

She was taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) for treatment.

The incident was reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the matter is under investigation by the police.
