Family and friends gathered at Monica Louise Smith’s St Andrew home last Saturday to celebrate her 90th birthday. Full of life and ageing gracefully, Smith was surrounded by loved ones, including family who travelled from the Turks and Caicos Islands, where she was born in Grand Turk. After moving to Jamaica at age 13, she built a life rooted in faith, family and education, including a 27-year career at Meadowbrook High School, where she became one of the school’s first administrative staff members. The festivities continued on Sunday with a thanksgiving worship service at her longtime place of worship, Meadowbrook United Church. Something Extra spotlights the birthday celebrations at her home.
