Some residents of Chester Castle, Shettlewood, Ramble, and Horten Grove in Hanover today mounted roadblocks to protest poor road conditions and water supply issues.

They called for the authorities to address the matter.

The demonstration came a day before the first anniversary of Hurricane Melissa, which caused widespread damage across sections of western Jamaica.

The protest reportedly began as early as 5 a.m., with upset residents using trees, bushes and other debris to block roads.

The main bridge connecting Chester Castle to Bethel Town in Westmoreland was rendered impassable after marl was used to block the crossing, forcing motorists to turn back while residents continued on foot.

The main bridge connecting Montpellier in St James to Hanover was also partially blocked with marl.

Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force were seen speaking with residents and removing items used to block the roadways.
