The Ministry of Labour and Social Security says it is providing assistance to residents of St Catherine affected by flooding caused by heavy rains that lashed the country over the past few days.

The Ministry, in a statement on Monday, said preliminary situation report dated October 26, indicated that a house on Bronx Street in Linstead sustained minor damage, affecting two people.

It said food packages and hygiene kits have been distributed in the parish, while a team has been dispatched to investigate further reports of flooding in Jericho and determine what assistance may be required.

To strengthen relief operations in St Catherine, the ministry said it has also dispatched an additional consignment of supplies to its parish office.

It said the additional resources will enable parish officers to provide practical assistance to affected families, particularly those requiring essential household items following the flooding.

The Ministry said it would prioritise outstanding household needs as the response progresses and facilitate further assistance based on the findings of ongoing assessments.

It added that assistance would be directed to families and communities where it is most urgently required.
