Mount Pleasant Football Academy head coach Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore has defended his decision to appoint Trayvone Reid as the club’s penalty taker following public criticism of Reid’s technique.
In Mount Pleasant’s Concacaf Caribbean Cup semifinal fixture against Club Sando, Reid failed to convert two penalties across both legs.
Reid’s penalties gained public attention because of his technique, with the player taking almost 20 seconds to complete his run-up in the first leg.
Despite the criticism, Whitmore has defended Reid’s technique and said he will remain the team’s first choice to take penalties.
“To be honest, Trayvone is our number one penalty kicker despite missing on two occasions,” Whitmore said.
“If it comes again, it's always going to be Trayvone Reid.”
Mount Pleasant advanced to the Caribbean Cup final after a 3-1 aggregate win over Club Sando and will await the winner of the rescheduled semifinal between Portmore United and Violette AC.
