St Catherine Eastern Member of Parliament Denise Daley has been returned unopposed as chairperson of the People’s National Party’s (PNP) Region Four, vowing to preserve unity within the region and build on the gains achieved.

Daley was returned at the party’s regional conference held yesterday at the Spanish Town Primary School.

Seventeen other members, representing the 17 constituencies in the region, were also nominated to the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) and returned unopposed.

Speaking to the media after the conference, Daley lauded the work of party members, saying there was no need to fix what had not been broken.

She said her first task would be to preserve unity within the region, arguing that without unity, no meaningful work could be achieved.

“But I must tell you that we intend to step up the whole organisation structure, we intend to ensure that reporting is a must and audits are done on each division and constituency,” she declared.

Daley said no excuses would be accepted from divisions or constituencies for failing to prepare reports, function properly or serve their communities.

“We will assert sanctions on them, and these sanctions will be reflected when they are ready to be re-elected, because if you put yourself out there to represent the party, you must adhere to the structures of the party.”

Daley also disclosed that the party’s mandate requires an audit of all groups, warning that sanctions would be imposed where so-called paper groups are discovered.

Region Four is the PNP’s second-largest region and encompasses 17 constituencies across St Catherine and Clarendon.

Daley has represented St Catherine Eastern in Parliament since December 2011.
