Constable Andrew Wilson, the policeman charged with the May 17 shooting death of Latoya 'Buju' Bulgin in Granville, St James, made his first appearance in the St James Circuit Court this morning, where he was granted $1 million bail.
Wilson, who is charged with murder in relation to Bulgin's death, had his matter transferred from the St James Parish Court to the circuit court by way of a voluntary bill of indictment.
During this morning's hearing before High Court Justice Andrea Pettigrew-Collins, the court was told that several documents are still outstanding from the prosecution's case file, including transcripts of an interview with Wilson, the post-mortem report, and a biology certificate relating to biological evidence from the scene of the alleged incident.
It was also disclosed that the arresting officer's statement, the forensic certificate, and CCTV footage are on file but have not yet been served on Wilson's attorneys, King's Counsel Peter Champagnie and attorney Michael Hemmings.
In applying for bail, Champagnie noted that the defendant had previously been granted bail in the sum of $1 million with surety and had been complying with the reporting conditions while the matter was before the parish court.
Justice Pettigrew-Collins subsequently granted Wilson bail on the same terms and reporting conditions previously imposed.
She also ordered that the outstanding documents be disclosed by August 7.
The matter will return to court for case management on October 9.
Bulgin, a Granville resident, was reportedly shot dead while participating in a protest organised to highlight the death of her 17-year-old cousin, who had been killed a week earlier in an incident that also involved the police.
