Two in a row for T&T, Jamaica earn first win

Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) continued their strong start to the CWI Rising Stars Under-19 Women’s Championship yesterday, clinching back-to-back victories with a tense three-wicket win over Guyana at the Liberta Sports Club.

Asked to bowl first, T&T seized control early, restricting Guyana to 79 for seven from their 20 overs. Off-spinner Samara Ramnath was the standout, claiming three for 20, while the fielding unit maintained pressure throughout.

Allia Henry top-scored with a fighting 22, but Guyana’s lack of support left their total looking under-par.

The chase, however, was far from straightforward. Guyana’s Kaiana Leitch rattled the top order with three for 16, reducing T&T to 46 for five in the 11th over. But valuable knocks from Jessica Davis (19) and Brianna Harricharan (17) steadied the innings, guiding their side home. T&T eventually scrambled to 80 for seven in 16.1 overs to secure the points.

The victory places T&T in a strong early position in the standings, contrasting sharply with more dominant displays elsewhere.

At the same venue, Jamaica Women eased past Leeward Islands Women. The Leewards posted 90 for four, anchored by an unbeaten 31 from Aaliyah Weekes, but Jamaica replied with 92 for four with two balls to spare. Teandra Morgan led the chase with 28, while Sashane Ricketts earlier restricted the hosts with two for eight.

Meanwhile, at the Bethesda Sports Ground, Barbados Women produced a ruthless performance, skittling Windward Islands Women for just 67 in 14.3 overs. Zaniyah Bruce was unplayable, finishing with three for two, while Zoe McCallister chipped in with two for 15. Barbados coasted to 68 for one in 11.4 overs, with Jadaeya Holder unbeaten on 26.
