Big shoes to fill in Eugene for Marshall, Bell

Jamaica, over the years, has had good results in the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Under-20 Championships, with Gillian Russell and Kerrica Hill winning back-to-back titles, while Ackera Nugent has won once.

Jamaica will be represented at this year’s championships in Eugene, Oregon, by Wolmer’s Girls training partners Tiana Marshall and Ackeelah Bell.

All eyes, however, will be on Marshall, who is ranked fourth in the world with a personal best of 12.98 seconds and will be hoping to challenge for the gold medal when the event gets under way.

Marshall has been one of the country’s most consistent junior hurdlers over the past two seasons and is also a back-to-back Carifta Games champion. Her impressive performances have placed her among the leading contenders for the title in Eugene.

The world-leading time going into the championships is 12.91 seconds, set by Madeline Cooper of the United States, and Marshall will know that she will have to be at her best if she is to challenge for the top spot.

However, Marshall has shown that she is capable of competing with the best and will be looking to produce another big performance on the international stage.

Her training partner Bell will also be hoping to make an impact in the event and give Jamaica a strong presence in the final.

Jamaica has a proud history in the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Under-20 Championships, and the two Wolmer’s Girls athletes will be aiming to continue that tradition.

With Marshall entering the championships as one of the leading contenders and Bell eager to prove herself, Jamaica will be hoping for another successful outing in the event.

Marshall, in particular, will be looking to crown her junior career with World Under-20 glory in Eugene.
