LONDON, England (CMC):

Manchester City’s Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw captured another coveted award when she was named Women’s Super League (WSL) football’s Player of the Season following an impressive showing in the just-concluded English season.

The 29-year-old Jamaican international starred during the season that saw her also win the Golden Boot for a third successive season with 21 goals in 22 appearances while leading City to their first WSL title in a decade.

Shaw beat teammate Kerstin Casparij, Arsenal forward Alessia Russo, and Aston Villa winger Kirsty Hanson to the award.

Shaw also won the Football Writers’Association women’s footballer of the year award earlier in May and was named City’s player of the season on Sunday.

Having arrived at City in 2021, Shaw has finished as the club’s top scorer in four of her five seasons and holds the record for the most hat-tricks in the WSL (six).

Some of Shaw’s best performances this season included a hat-trick against Tottenham and a four-goal haul at home to Aston Villa, as well as scoring an important opener in the 3-2 win over Arsenal in October.

She could help City snatch a domestic double if they beat Brighton in the Women’s FA Cup final on May 31.

Casparij collected the award on Shaw’s behalf with the striker choosing not to attend the ceremony in London.

“She’s a goalscorer, an incredible person, and she’s been so fun to work with,” said Casparij.

“I have my assist tally to thank her for as she’s headed those goals in. She’s just incredible.”
