Tivoli Gardens pulled off a come-from-behind win in Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League (JPL) action as they downed Dunbeholden 2-1 yesterday at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex to boost their chances for a play-off spot.
Alton Lewis kicked off the comeback for the hosts with his equalising strike in the 13th minute before Joshua Dewar scored the winner in the 22nd.
Clive Wedderburn’s opening goal for Dunbeholden in the seventh minute proved to be a consolation effort at full time.
It was the first win in seven games for Tivoli, as they have broken their poor run of form in the league.
The result sees them climbing to seventh in the league standings on 33 points, and have just leapfrogged Dunbeholden, who fall to ninth in the standings on 32.
The defeat snapped Dunbeholden’s two-game win streak, and continues their inconsistent form, as this is their fifth defeat in their last 10 games.
In other games across the league, defending champions Cavalier picked up their fourth win in a row as they edged Chapelton Maroons 1-0 at Stadium East.
Romarion Thomas scored the all-important goal for Cavalier in the 72nd minute as they move to fifth in the JPL standings on 39 points.
Chapelton, on the other hand, fell to 10th as they remain on 32 points.
Portmore United missed out on a prime opportunity to move into the league’s top three after they were held to a 1-1 draw with Treasure Beach at Ferdi Neita Park.
Portmore looked set to collect all three points when they opened the scoring through youth international Dunsting Cohen on the 22nd minute, but found themselves pegged back on level terms when Afiba Chambers scored the equaliser in the 75th.
The result is another two points dropped for Portmore, who are winless in their last three games following a defeat to Waterhouse and a draw against Mount Pleasant.
Action in the JPL continues today with Monday Night action. Harbour View will play hosts to Racing United at the Harbour View Stadium at 3:30 p.m., before Waterhouse take on league leaders Montego Bay United at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
