A Hanover man who was held with ganja in his car during a traffic stop in St Mary was today fined a total of $165,000 in the parish court after pleading guilty.

Kelvin Patrick Esteen, 46, was charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, and trafficking in ganja.

He pleaded guilty to possession of ganja and dealing in ganja and was fined $15,000 and $150,000, respectively.

The court heard that on Tuesday, May 26, police conducting a national coordinated roadblock along the Cambridge main road in St Mary intercepted a motor vehicle being driven by Esteen.

According to the police, during a search of the vehicle, they discovered approximately five and a half pounds of ganja concealed in several locations, mainly within the rim of the spare tyre beneath the vehicle.

Following investigations, Esteen was charged.

Arising from the court case, head of the St Mary Police Division, Anthony Wallace, said the police remain committed to disrupting the movement and distribution of illegal drugs and other illicit activities through intelligence-led operations, strategic road policing, and proactive law enforcement measures aimed at keeping communities safe and secure.
