The St Mary police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a suspected case of suicide in the Highgate community of St Mary on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as 43-year-old contractor, Oneero Roberts, otherwise called 'Anif', of Comsee district, Highgate.

Reports are that approximately 10:30 a.m. the body of the deceased was discovered hanging from a tree in a bushy area behind his home.

"The Police were summoned and, upon arrival, observed the deceased suspended by a rope from the tree. The body was clad in a black T-shirt and dark blue jeans and was in a partially decomposed state," said Anthony Wallace, Commanding Officer in charge of the St Mary police division.

The scene was processed and the body was later removed to the morgue for post-mortem examination.

"This unfortunate incident brings to five the number of suspected suicides recorded in the St Mary Division since the start of 2026. The police are encouraging members of the public to take mental health seriously and to seek professional help, guidance, or support when faced with emotional distress, depression, or overwhelming personal challenges," Wallace stated.

"Persons are also encouraged to check on family members, friends, and loved ones who may be struggling silently. The St Mary police remain committed to the safety and well-being of all citizens," he added.
