A June 4 trial date has been set for Suelyn Ward-Brown in relation to the Clifton land fraud case.

The decision was arrived at on Monday when the matter came up for mention in the St Catherine Parish Court.

The clerk of courts told the court that, upon perusal of the file, a prima facie case can be made out for fraudulent conversion.

However, attorney Deborah Martin told the court that the defence was baffled by the announcement, as her client had only written the invoices for a 'Mr Brown' who is still walking free.

Ward-Brown's bail was extended until the start of the trial.

The case was initially before the St Catherine Circuit Court, however, it was remitted to the parish court as it was determined that some of the matters did not meet the threshold for prosecution there.

Ward-Brown is charged with breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act, the Law Reform Fraudulent Transactions Special Provisions Act, and conspiracy to defraud.

Five people reported that they paid the school principal over $4 million for lands near Clifton, St Catherine.

One complainant allegedly paid $2.4 million for a plot, while others claimed they paid $800,000 and $600,000.
