The St Catherine teacher accused of selling a house he did not own and collecting more than $2 million is to seek to make restitution to the complainant.

Raheim Douglas, 25, is charged with obtaining money by means of false pretence.

Douglas, who is of a Twickenham Park, Spanish Town address, was granted bail more than three months ago, on December 9, 2025, but was unable to take up the offer due to the matter of surety.

When the matter returned to the parish court today, Douglas’ mother was accepted as surety, clearing the way for him to take up his bail.

During the proceedings, his attorney, Alexander Shaw, told the court that with Douglas in custody, he was unable to make efforts toward restitution.

Following submissions, the man’s mother was allowed to stand surety.

The educator was ordered by Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyne to surrender his travel documents and to report to the Central Village Police Station three times weekly.

The complainant was told that bail was granted to put the accused in a position to repay the defrauded sums.

The matter is to return to court on May 5.

Allegations are that in October 2024, the complainant was in the Twickenham Park community when he observed an empty house.

He was reportedly approached by Douglas, who lives near the property.

Douglas allegedly produced a key, opened the house, and told the complainant that the dwelling was for sale for $8,000,000.

The complainant reportedly made payments amounting to $2.4 million to Douglas over a period of time.

The alleged fraud was uncovered in April 2025 when the complainant attempted to obtain documentation for the house.

As a result, the police were contacted, and following an investigation, Douglas was arrested and subsequently charged.
