Taxi driver charged with causing death by dangerous driving in Spanish Town crash

Taxi operator Shelton Johnson has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a crash that calimed the life of a woman in Spanish Town, St Catherine on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as 54-year-old Janet Wilson, of 41 Jobs Lane in Spanish Town.
According to reports, at about 3:02 p.m. on Saturday, Wilson was walking along Young Street in the company of another woman when they were struck by a speeding 2019 AD Wagon, driven by Johnson.
The impact reportedly threw Wilson more than 12 metres through an ackee tree, a zinc fence, and into a nearby premises. The vehicle came to a halt after colliding with a concrete wall and a Mazda Premacy motor car.
Wilson and other injured parties, including passengers in the vehicle, were taken to Spanish Town Hospital, where Wilson was pronounced dead. The others received treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.
Johnson was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was formally charged on Monday following a question-and-answer session.
He is scheduled to appear in the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday.
