The case is to go back to court on April 14.

The man and woman who were held allegedly with the car of a man whose decomposing body was found in a canal in Hartlands, St Catherine last month were remanded when they appeared before the parish court on Tuesday.

The accused, Barbara Gardener and Kevin Austin, both of Manchester addresses, are charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.

The deceased, who was identified as 39-year-old Michael Patterson, a security guard of Ensom City in Spanish Town, St Catherine, was reported missing.

Patterson was also studying engineering at the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech).

In court, the investigator indicated that a murder investigation is under way.

As a result, the case was postponed until April 14 to facilitate the completion of outstanding documents in the matter and their submission to the court.

About 12:30 p.m. on February 23, the police were summoned to a scene in Hartlands, St Catherine.

Upon arrival, the partially decomposed body of a man was found in a canal.

It was later identified as Patterson, who had been reported missing on February 20.

The scene was processed and the body removed.
