Dr Imamu ‘Mu’ Tomlinson, a former collegiate basketball player, now an emergency physician and chief executive officer of Vituity – one of the largest physician-owned medical partnerships in the United States–  is part of the speaker lineup for the second annual Pocket Rocket Foundation (PRF) Student-Athlete Summit on Friday, May 29.

With Jamaican-Canadian roots and a career shaped by sport, medicine and leadership, Tomlinson also serves as president and CEO of the company’s philanthropic arm, Vituity Cares Foundation, which is dedicated to youth development and community investment. The foundation serves as a major partner of this year’s summit.

Themed ‘Ready. Set. Accelerate!’, the event will bring together more than 150 student-athletes from approximately 30 high schools across the island for a day of learning, reflection and meaningful conversations aimed at helping young people broaden their perspectives and prepare for life beyond the classroom and competition.

“As someone whose own journey has been shaped by sport, mentorship and opportunity, I understand how important it is for young people to be supported not only in their performance, but in their growth as leaders and changemakers,” said Tomlinson. “The work of the Pocket Rocket Foundation reflects that belief, and we are proud to support an initiative that is helping student-athletes broaden their perspectives and recognise what is possible for their future.”

Founder and Chairwoman of the Pocket Rocket Foundation, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, said Tomlinson’s story reflects the kind of perspective and lived experience the foundation wants its student-athletes to encounter through the event.

“Dr Tomlinson’s journey from athlete to physician and business leader is a powerful example of what can happen when discipline, purpose and opportunity come together,” said Fraser-Pryce. “His story reinforces the importance of thinking beyond limitations and remaining open to growth, leadership and new possibilities.”

She also expressed gratitude for the partnership in helping to create meaningful opportunities for student-athletes.

Tomlinson will participate in the panel discussion, ‘Thinking beyond limits: overcoming challenges and building a winning mindset’, alongside Fraser-Pryce, executive director, Dr Jermaine McCalpin, and physician director at Vituity and board member at Vituity Cares Foundation, Dr Maureen Bell.

The keynote speaker for the Summit is internationally recognised political leader and bestselling author Stacey Abrams. The lineup also includes presentations from performance psychologist Dr Olivia Rose, physiotherapist Dr Yael Jagbir and chiropractic neurologist Dr Neil Gardner.
