Commendations for compassionate policing

THE EDITOR, Madam:
Given the negative perception the Jamaica Constabulary Force has been receiving, I believe it is important to highlight two officers, Corporal Kenroy Young and Inspector Hewitt, who recently demonstrated exceptional kindness, professionalism, and commitment to service.
As a resident of Montego Bay, I am not very familiar with navigating Kingston. On August 10, I relied on my GPS to take me to a destination in the city. Unfortunately, after turning onto Industrial Drive, the GPS directions became inaccurate and repeatedly led me onto roads that were closed with concrete barriers and had not been updated on Google Maps.
After several unsuccessful attempts to find my way out, I eventually realized that I was lost. Fortunately, I came upon the Trench Town Police Station, where Corporal Kenroy Young immediately noticed my distress and approached me to offer assistance.
Once I explained my situation, Corporal Young acted without delay to ensure I reached my destination safely. He first sought assistance from another officer. However, when that officer was delayed by other duties, Inspector Hewitt kindly stepped in and escorted me to my destination.
Corporal Young also provided me with his contact information and encouraged me to reach out if I encountered any further difficulty leaving Kingston. Later, when I again found myself being directed by the GPS toward the same blocked roads, I contacted him. Without hesitation, he came to my location and personally guided me back onto the correct route out of the city.
I was deeply grateful for and genuinely impressed by the care and concern shown by both officers. Corporal Young, in particular, went above and beyond what was required of him.
At a time when law enforcement often receives criticism, I believe it is equally important to acknowledge those officers who demonstrate compassion, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to serving the public.
I commend Corporal Kenroy Young and Inspector Hewitt for their exemplary conduct and sincerely hope their actions will be formally recognised. Their assistance made what could have been a stressful experience significantly easier, and their kindness left a lasting impression on me.
