Concern regarding CAPE scheduling conflict

THE EDITOR, Madam:
I am writing to express concern regarding the current scheduling of CSEC and CAPE examinations by the Caribbean Examinations Council.
At the CSEC level, mathematics and English B Paper 2 examinations are scheduled on the same day. These are both demanding subjects that require intense concentration and problem-solving. Additionally, other major subjects such as social studies and biology are scheduled within the same week, creating a continuous period of high mental strain for students.
At the CAPE level, similar concerns arise. Key subjects such as pure mathematics Unit 1 and biology Unit 1 Paper 2 are scheduled on the same day, while several other demanding Paper 2 examinations like physics Unit 2 and pure mathematics Unit 2, along with chemistry Unit 2 are clustered within a single week. This creates a period of intense academic strain rather than benefiting from the extended examination period. This remains an issue, as students are still required to sit several demanding examinations in quick succession.
Paper 2 examinations are particularly challenging, requiring extended written responses and sustained focus. Having several of these exams close together can lead to fatigue and may negatively impact performance.
A clarification from CXC is requested on the rationale behind this scheduling and whether greater consideration can be given to spacing out major examinations to better support student well-being and performance.
