‘It’s like a dream come true’ - Boom Boom honoured as dancehall ambassador

Veteran selector Boom Boom shows off the custom black, red and gold jacket presented to him after he was honoured for his contribution to dancehall and named Magnum’s newest brand ambassador during A Taste of Sumfest at Plantation Cove in St Ann.
Veteran selector Boom Boom shared that he was feeling a sense of accomplishment after he was honoured for his years of contribution to dancehall at A Taste of Sumfest on Sunday morning and officially announced as Magnum’s newest brand ambassador.
Speaking with The Gleaner, the disc jockey, whose real name is Marlon Wizzard, said the honour felt like “a dream come true”. “’Cause I’ve been doing the work from a taller time and to see everything come together now, it’s an overwhelming feeling,” Wizzard said.
“And me really haffi big up Magnum fi di honour. Fi see dem turn me inna one ambassador fi going out and doing the work weh me love, yeah man … is a great feeling,” he added.
Josef Bogdanovich, chief executive officer of Downsound Entertainment, and Brandon Wallace, brand manager for Magnum, presented Boom Boom with a custom black, red and gold leather jacket bearing his name across the back above a Magnum-branded music box.
A grateful Boom Boom said he always knew this day would come. “We always seh sky is the limit, and me believe inna God, and me know me have talent. I’ve been putting in the work right through – locally and internationally. Me a [one of] the only solo DJ weh fly out every weekend from 2010 till now… . So me go all over the world to represent reggae and dancehall culture,” Boom Boom said.
As he showed off his new jacket, Boom Boom had some words of advice for youngsters in the industry. “Stick to you culture and roots… . Don’t get carried away. And stay far from social media negativity and problem. Always stay a people person. Don’t get caught in the fighting and cursing,” he said. “So, for the youths weh wah do music … and not even just music, for the youths in general, stay far from trouble,” Boom Boom warned.
