A former police trainee charged for allegedly injuring a colleague with a metal pipe during a confrontation in a dormitory at the police training institution in Twickenham Park, St Catherine, is to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, and a date to be set for trial.
The order was made in the St Catherine Parish Court today following a request by the attorney representing the accused, Sylvester Williams, who is charged with unlawful wounding.
Williams was originally charged with wounding with intent, but the charge was reduced to unlawful wounding.
When the matter was mentioned today, mediation was recommended.
It was later revealed in court that the attempt at mediation was unsuccessful.
The matter was then postponed until November 26 for a trial date to be decided.
Allegations are that about 12:30 a.m. on September 12, 2025, a dispute arose between the two trainees at a dormitory at the National Police College of Jamaica in Twickenham Park.
The dispute reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Williams allegedly used a piece of metal to hit the complainant several times, causing wounds that bled.
The complainant was taken to Spanish Town Hospital, where he was treated and subsequently released to the medical centre at the training college, where he was admitted for his injuries.
An investigation was carried out, resulting in Williams being arrested and charged.
