A businessman charged for defrauding a senior member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force out of $1.2 million after failing to supply a motor car has been freed after repaying the money.
Jerome Crichton was charged with non-delivery of service and fraudulent conversion.
When the matter came up today, Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyne was informed that Crichton had made a payment of $200,000.
The court was told that he had previously repaid $1 million.
After acknowledging receipt of the full sum, the complainant told the court that he had no further interest in the matter.
As a result, Crichton was freed.
The court had heard that in November 2025, the complainant, who is a minister of religion and a police sergeant, paid a deposit of $1,200,000 for the purchase of a Honda Esquire, which was to be delivered in February 2026.
The delivery date passed, but the vehicle was not delivered and the complainant's money was not returned.
A report was made to the Spanish Town police, and an investigation was launched, which resulted in Crichton's arrest.
He was charged following a question-and-answer session.
