An ex-soldier is facing criminal charges after more than 130 rounds of ammunition, some of them for high-powered rifles, were allegedly found at his St Catherine home during a law enforcement operation on Saturday.
Cleaven Green, a former Warrant Officer in the Jamaica Defence Force, has been charged with unauthorised possession of ammunition and stockpiling of ammunition, the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) disclosed yesterday.
The bullets seized include 112 nine-millimetre rounds and twenty-two 5.56 rounds used mainly in assault rifles, according to a statement from Director of Communications at MOCA Major Basil Jarrett.
They were found during a search and seizure operation conducted at Green’s home in Silver Sun Estate, in Portmore, by agents from MOCA as part of an on-going narcotics investigation, the statement alleged.
MOCA agents also conducted a search and seizure operation at the St Catherine home of a senior cop implicated in the narcotics investigation.
The homes and other premises linked to two high-ranking police officers were searched by MOCA agents in August in connection with the same narcotics probe.
Jarrett refused to disclose details about the narcotics investigation.
However, sources told The Gleaner that it is related to the seizure of a quantity of cocaine in a storage facility as the since disbanded elite police Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime unit.
Sources say investigators are seeking to determine whether cops significantly under-reported the quantity of cocaine that was seized during an operation in western Jamaica last August.
