A motorcyclist was killed and a pillion injured in a fiery crash along the Bog Walk Gorge in St Catherine on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Jason Johnson of Portmore Villa in Portmore, in the parish.

The police report that about 3:55 p.m., Johnson was driving a Zamco GG150 motorcycle with a pillion towards Spanish Town when, upon reaching a section of the roadway in the vicinity of Rio Village, he overtook a line of traffic.

It is further reported that the bike came into contact with a motor car and then made contact with the right rear wheel of the trailer that was attached to a truck, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

The motorcycle burst into flames upon impact with the trailer.

The pillion managed to jump from the bike and sustained injuries.

Johnson sustained several fractured limbs and severe burn injuries to his body.

The police and the fire department were called to the scene.

Firefighters carried out cooling-down operations.

Both the pillion and Johnson were assisted to the Linstead Hospital, where Johnson was pronounced dead.

The driver of the trailer truck was warned for prosecution by the police.

The Bog Walk Traffic Department is probing the matter.
